At Snap, Council is a way we invite people to share their stories, listen, and cultivate inclusivity and compassion among diverse groups of participants. Council plays a part in our efforts at Snap to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), which you can read more about in our Diversity Annual Report HERE.
We are introducing an initiative, called Dandelion, to train underrepresented talent in the practice of Council facilitation in businesses, globally.
We are investing in Dandelion as part of our commitment as a company to DEI, and to contribute to fostering spaces within and outside Snap that value kindness, compassion, and empathy.
We hope that Dandelion helps Council practices to thrive and promote inclusivity across new environments, no matter the terrain.
DEI only works if there is empathy in the culture, in the air we breathe, in the way we interact. I found that after twenty-five years in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Council is the most effective way to scale understanding. And for me, that was the lesson and question of 2020: how do we scale empathy? Having a scaled Council program at Snap is a critical part of the answer.
